A few weeks back I sent an e-mail to the dash gauge company, - TopicsExpress

A few weeks back I sent an e-mail to the dash gauge company, whining about their terrible documentation, including the all-important wiring diagram. Tonight I was using my flowchart program to create a schematic of the dash in the Chevy. Not all of the connections in the connectors are used, but the color coding is the same on the tach as it is on the speedometer. Which means the pink wire on the speedometer goes to the oil pressure sensor under the hood, and the pink wire on the tach goes to the fuel tank, which is behind the seat. But that wire goes down under the cab, and into the engine compartment, so there could be confusion. I still have not heard back on HOW to connect the tachometer. I did Google that, and have some ideas, but all the instructions I have from the gauge company read, If Required -- Connect the (White) wire from pin 4/D to the terminal or wire originating from the unrectified side of the alternator. Tachometer plug-in harnesses are sometimes available from the engine manufacturer to simplify the hookup. (The terminals are A-F for Packard connection cases, and 1-6 for my Deutsch connection cases.) Im pretty sure that if I hook the tach wire up to the alternator, rather than the distributor, I am going to see a lot of smoke under the dash.
