A few weeks back, a bill was presented to Congress where they attached a bill to possibly revoke up to 60% of my pension. I went to the website whitehouse.gov and submitted a form asking someones president (Not mine) to not sign the bill and save my pension. Today, I received the following reply. I need someone to translate just what the heck is being said here. Is he helping my cause, or piling on the crap even higher by a bunch of double talk? I am serious, can someone please translate this: Dear John: Thank you for writing, and for your service and sacrifice. I want you to know that when you send me an email, I am listening. I will keep treating the cares and concerns of people who write to me as my own, and I will keep fighting to restore the American dream for everybody who is willing to work for it. Washington must do its part by investing in plans that grow our economy from the middle‑out, not the top‑down. As a Nation, we must ensure that corporate profits do not depend upon misleading families and individuals, and that our economy rewards perseverance and innovation while being guided by fairness and responsibility. Our financial system only functions—and our market is only free—when clear rules and basic safeguards prevent abuse, check excess, and guarantee it’s more profitable to play by the rules than to game the system. We also need to protect a Government of, by, and for the people that serves ordinary Americans and ensures their voices are not drowned out by millions of dollars in secret, special interest advertising. Allowing corporate and special interest takeovers of our elections is damaging to our democracy. And both parties in Congress need to come together to solve our country’s problems and rebuild the trust of the people who sent us here. Again, I appreciate your thoughts. The constant cycle of manufactured crises and self‑inflicted wounds created by Washington has undermined our economy, and it has to stop. We must invest in ourselves and build a country where anyone who works hard has a chance to reach for our Nation’s promise. Sincerely, Barack Obama
