A few years ago, BBC Radio 4 presented an excellent series called A History of the World in 100 Objects. This used a hundrefd objects selected from the British Museums vast collections to examine the development of mankind since the earliest days, During the series, one of the articles selected for the Victorian perkios was a Wedgwood tea-set and the programme covered not only the industrial developments which allowed the ceramics to be created, but also world trade and many other aspects of society at that time.
