A fifth grade boy came to the Info Desk yesterday to use our phone. I told him to dial 9 to get an outside line first. He hung up a few seconds later and said it was making a funny noise. When he redialed I noticed he wasnt picking up the handset before dialing the number. I asked if he was dialing a long distance phone number. He said no. I asked him for the area code and he recited our zip code. I asked him again for the area code and he again gave me the zip code. I had him write down the phone number for me, and it was long distance after all. When I explained that I had to dial long distance phone numbers on a different phone, he looked at me blankly. Are parents REALLY leaving kids in the library who cant operate a phone????
