A final salute and farewell: One of the very first Centurions passed away today, August 22, 2014, at 7:33 EDT. Our old and dear friend, Jim Butler, was hospitalized with symptoms of Epstein-Barr viral infection and after nearly a week of treatment his immune system became so compromised, its believed he finally succumbed to sepsis. Before any aircraft were delivered, as the unit Surety Officer, Jim groomed a fledgling E/502nd Aviation Company to become fully mission capable in just 18 months. For me as Flight Standards, Jim was that Go-To-Guy; as liaison between flight ops, safety, The C.O. and up the chain to USAREUR HQ, there were no limits to his enthusiasm, resourcefulness, persistence and patience making all our jobs that much easier. We will miss him terribly. May God rest his soul.
