A fire last night took out a landmark of sorts along Route 9 in Hadley. A wood frame strip mall, a series of small shops and restaurants, built well before the big malls. It looked like it grew haphazardly. A Vietnamese restaurant, a favorite Mexican place, a halal market, used computer store, bakery, laundromat, and more -- it was the kind of place where a small business could take root, maybe do well, before (and despite) the infestation of chain stores and burger creatures lined themselves up along that highway. Reflection of a simpler time that wont likely be replaced.
