A fitting OBITUARY to Gurcharan Singh Vohra Chunni Kenyas GREATEST hotelier Up to last week when he died, very few people knew that Sarova was owned by Kenyan. Part of the reason for this was the fact that Vohra was media shy and would only appear in media when he was involved in charity event. But it is also because of the exotic sound of the name he gave his hotel groups. Yet the name Sarova was very central to Chunni’s world view and approach to life. The name is derived from Sikh word ‘sarovar’ which means pond, pool, lake, or ocean. In Sikhism a sarovar refers to the sacred waters of a pool, or moat like tank, built around or close to Gurudwara, the Sikh temples. The deeply religious Chunni wanted to have a healing influence on his world. And he took his mission of healing the world very vigorously even when his body was clearly calling for him to slow down in life. At the time of his death, he was paying school fees to hundreds of students in high school and university. thepeople.co.ke/27517/hotelier-wanted-to-heal-the-world/
