A former Royal Navy servicemen contacted us today regarding his need to borrow a laptop to undertake a university course to improve his career prospects. He has a job but could only find employment that paid minimum wage and although he is just about managing to cater for his wife, two children and himself, the possibility of being able to afford a laptop is non-existent. He had considered using the local library computers but as he is working 12hour night shifts, it would mean giving up the only time he has to spend with his family. After a brief chat, we told him that we cant lend him a laptop. We have bought one for him to keep though and it will be with him on Friday. He was utterly thrilled as it would mean his family could use it too! No red tape - no politics - just support!
