A former employee of mine named Doug was the one who suggested that we call my old bar Apocalypso and even claimed hed coined the word. But I knew of a song called The Apocalypso that had gotten a bunch of play on Much Music in the mid-eighties and seeing as how I knew Doug was heavily into Canadian alt/techno/dance music during the time it was in rotation I found that hard to believe. So I told Doug that but he insisted that I was full of it. For a while I resisted the idea of using the name because I was worried wed be infringing copyright somehow. But our lawyer said he didnt see it as a problem so I relented and we called the bar Apocalypso, its a pretty good name for an alt/punk bar. But I kept insisting to Doug that he hadnt coined the word almost every time he claimed he had. And he kept saying to me that I was wrong because I couldnt remember the name of the band. However that suggested to me that he knew there was a band who had a name I couldnt remember so I told him so. The rest of the partnership & staff didnt care. And they seemed to think our disagreement over the name was funny. I tried finding the song “The Apocalypso” that Id told Doug about a few years ago but found nothing. But I was thinking about all that again recently and today I did some Google searches and found the video The Apocalypso. Its on the net now and I found it this time, it pleased me that I could finally prove I was right. But since Doug and I arent in communication I probably wont ever prove it to him.
