A fragile beginning to Occupy Democracy and a long night on the cold stone. Heritage wardens reinforced by police kindly informed us that tents and sleeping equipment was not allowed in the square, the result of a law imposed following the long haul of protests gone by. So we shivered and listened as Big Ben chimed us through the night. This means that we are breaking the law if we erect tents, and from what weve seen so far theyll forcefully remove them. Today is the coming together of many marches, and hopefully a strong enough voice for those in Parliament to listen. Were here to reclaim democracy, so far weve been offered little in the way of human decency, although a few constables have offered kind words. Those who do the dirty for the establishment must know we are here for them too, to imagine and inspire a path to a new society, one not governed by fear, deceit and greed. (The offending item in the video is a blow up mattress which was being sat on by an ageing woman)
