A free symposium of Traumatic Brain Injury takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 21 at Random Howse located at 395 North Beach Road in Eastsound. The FREE educational symposium that also includes a free lunch and a break to allow participants to view the Solstice Parade. Concussions and Second Impact Syndrome: Protecting the Brain, presented by Kelly Allen, MSN, RN, CEN Trauma Program Manager from Providence Regional Medical Center, Everett. Kelly will answer and discuss the following questions: What is a concussion, and what are the physiologic happenings within the brain? What is second impact syndrome and post-concussion syndrome? What is the incident of concussion among young athletes, and what are the tools for prevention? Inside Out Organ Show, presented by Lisa Dunn, BSN, RN, Clinical Educator Lisa will take viewers on a fantastic voyage through the human body. Actual human organs, such as hearts, lungs, kidneys, brains, livers, and aortas will be shown. Some are healthy; others have been damaged by substance abuse, poor eating habits, and unsafe behaviors. Through the presentation, viewers will see first-hand what really happens to their bodies when they choose harmful habits and lifestyles.
