A fresh row has erupted over plum State jobs with CORD leaders alleging a systematic purge of parastatal bosses and skewed appointments by the Jubilee government. 0 inShare. Minority Whip Jakoyo Midiwo claimed the recent changes at key State corporations were engineered to pave way for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s TNA and his deputy William Ruto’s URP to take top jobs under their 50:50 pre-election power sharing agreement. Managing directors in at least 11 State firms have recently left office either after their terms expired or their holders were promoted to Cabinet or forced out due to alleged misconduct. Opposition MPs alleged bias in the temporary appointments to replace them and held this up as a pointer that substantive appointments would not be fair. The chairman of parliamentary Public Investment Committee (PIC) Adan Keynan said his team would seek to investigate the sackings and replacements in the State Corporations once Parliament reopens on September 17. “We shall investigate the reasons given for the sackings but it is obvious that there has been no regional balance in the new appointments,” said Keynan. The Eldas MP said the investigations would seek to determine whether the affected officials had been victimised over their perceived political affiliations. “The victimisation going on should stop. They want space created for them to enjoy the shared presidency. But we are a tribal country and the population will notice what is going on,” said Midiwo. Midiwo added: “There is very little we can do about it because this is their government. But they should know they will be judged very harshly.” However, Jubilee Senate Chief Whip Beatrice Elachi said the ruling coalition was not targeting anyone. Elachi explained that if one’s term had lapsed or there were claims of misconduct their weapon of choice was to claim, “our community is being hounded out”. “I believe that if one’s term has expired you can’t say they have targeted you. Equally, if there are queries raised then one must be questioned as an individual not a region,” said Elachi.
