A friend asked me a valid question as to why the cries of injustice fall on deaf ears.. Here is what I said... I will tell you my thoughts. Let me say that historically the issues of the all minorities are not brought to the forefront because they are the minority. It sounds sarcastic but reason with me. The minority must find a way to compel the majority to consider its grievances. Again I refer to history when Gandhi sought to free India from British rule he did so by winning the hearts of the Britons and the world. It was thru nonviolent resistance that caused the world to castigate England into freeing its indian subjects. Dr King was a student of the Gandhi reason method thus he led a non violent movement that compelled Americans to look at evil of segregation and inequality and fight along with Dr King to bring about justice and change. Look again at Mandela and Biko in South Africa. Stephen Biko was murdered and Mandela was a prisoner of injustice for decades. Mandela espoused violence at first but that caused more social injustice and brought about greater hatred of the blacks in South Africa. But when the world learned about Mandela in prison and how he had become a man of peace and principle. A man who was willing to be treated unjustly and yet be just in his request. A man who was wrongly in prisoned and yet spoke of forgiveness. A man who was told he was not equal who refused to act unequal but instead chose rise to become the equal or better of any any man who held him low. This is what causes people to hear the cries of the minority. All of these men had common beliefs. Beliefs that compelled them to become who they were but also beliefs and principles that they required of their own in order to bring about the change they have given so much for.
