A friend asked me tonight why people say my name in anger and with such venom; yet I never say their name. I have opinions on many things. I state those opinions freely. I dont expect anyone to agree with me. When I began the struggle for the rights of the freedmen, I was called Ni**er lover. Even when no one believed we could win, I stood firm. And now we are on the cusp of a changing event in Cherokee history. The freedmen will be Cherokee citizens. When I stood up for marriage equality in the Cherokee Nation, I was called a faggot and worse. But now, 13 states have marriage equality and more soon to follow. Even Oklahoma will fall to power of the 14th Amendment. In a few short years, bigotry in the Cherokee Nation wont matter. I am a patient man. When I supported Bill John Baker for Principal Chief I was called a fool, told he could not win. When Chad Smith said I would never work for the Cherokee Nation as long as he was chief, I decided he would no longer be chief. I dont intend or set out to create controversy. I just do what I think is right and the forces of evil create the firestorm. I am, almost daily, reminded of this quote: You have enemies? Good. That means youve stood up for something, sometime in your life ~ Winston Churchill
