A friend mentioned that MAD is very famous today. I can only say, it is a humbling experience. 5 long years of hard work, bootstrapping and forging ahead - all with a single-minded passion of helping and developing entrepreneurs. To me, it is the beginning of a new chapter and new challenges - working, sustaining, improving and extending our reach to more entrepreneurs. The difference between yesterday and today is that i have more resources through Kathrein Ventures and Startup Nation (SUN). They are both not just my investors but my partners who share the same passion and vision like me in helping, developing and accelerating startups in South East Asia. Now the MAD formula of business support, market access and funding access is complete. This is why I said, Now, the real work begins! Many do not realize the many sweat, anxiety and tears that went on behind the scenes for the last 5 years building up MAD Incubator. Nevertheless, I want the MAD Story to be the inspiration for aspiring entrepreneurs. We started from nothing. Through bootstrapping, we tried hard to grow MAD. Through partnerships and co-creation, we tried hard to make MAD into a business incubation company instead of just an incubator company. Throughout the 5 years, we have our fair share of hardships and cash-crunch but whatever it takes, we try to weather it through. We tried hard to make it through at the end of the day. The journey was rough but we have our fighting spirit and our passion pushed us through. Thinking of our entrepreneurs and their successes are our sole motivation. It wasnt easy. We have no government funding but just a handful of friends of MAD that came out to support our ideals. So we weather through, come what may. And I thank these friends of MAD who believes in us and patiently waded the minefield with us. 2013 was a turning point for MAD when we took over the MSC Malaysia Technology Commercialization Centre from MDeC. It was the perfect opportunity when no one wants to look at managing a 10 year old facility that requires a lot of maintenance and tender loving care. We managed to turn it around. Thanks to MDeC, MTCC puts us on the growth path. Till today, I am totally appreciative of MDeC in partnering with us in this endeavor. Today, I can only say that the confidence given to MAD has helped us tremendously in changing the way incubators work in Malaysia and in this region. We remain indebted to all our friends, partners, mentors, corporate leaders and MDeC for supporting us all these years. Todays news is humbling. It reminds me that the ultimate winners are entrepreneurs throughout this region. It is not about me or MAD.
