A friend needs a divorce attorney for an uncontested divorce. Him - TopicsExpress

A friend needs a divorce attorney for an uncontested divorce. Him and his wife have pretty much negotiated most of the terms, but an attorney is still obviously needed to make sure its a fair settlement. He has contacted a number of Brooklyn divorce attorneys and none thus far want to deal on a strictly hourly, consulting basis. All want multi-thousand dollars retainers for a set amount of hours or offer packages which also start at a few thousand dollars. Question. Is there a way to hire a competent divorce attorney that will essentially offer his services on a time and material basis, i.e. an attorney spends an hour with a client, he gets an hour pay, etc? I dont understand why a client must prepay for a set number of hours and then essentially be locked with that particular attorney and in all actuality not being able to control how the hours and money are being spent, relying strictly on lawyers honesty. Perhaps its typical for attorneys I have such arrangements but it doesnt work for my friend. Any recommendations are appreciated.
