A friend of mine directed my attention to BumbleBars kind donation - TopicsExpress

A friend of mine directed my attention to BumbleBars kind donation to Ethiopian Schools and I happily looked into it. Sadly though, I did not like what i found. let me explain: Sesame seed (selite) is the main ingredient of BumbleBar. Ethiopia is one of the top exporter in the world next to China. india, Myanmar, Nigeria and Sudan also in the mix. Bumblebar company works with two farming cooperatives, Fana cooperative – composed of 1,000 farming families and the Shewit cooperative – composed of 500 farming families. According to the companies press release these two farming communities produce are good and quality. The only help towards a school i found is bumble bars donation of 5 cents for every pound of quality sesame seeds they purchase from the farmers. This company also boasts a $49000 building that is completed its first phase. The part they are not telling us is half of that money came from the farmers themselves. according to my math if bumble bar donated $24500 for the school, that means they purchased half a million pound sesame seed. For $2.59 a bar God only knows how much profit the company made. Corporate Profiteering at its best. So i ask you, who is helping who? I think Ethiopian Commodity Exchange is set up to give farmers a market place to sell their products directly without a hand out or shallow promises of foreign companies. I need officials back home to weigh on this.
