A friend of mine just posted the names of those (the soldiers) - TopicsExpress

A friend of mine just posted the names of those (the soldiers) sentenced for mutiny. They were, according to him, all from the Southern part of Nigeria and all Christians. His question bothered on why should it be only Southerners and Christians that were sent to the land of Boko Haram ill equipped? For him, they were sent without being properly equipped. The story we read before insinuated that not only that they were not properly equipped, their movement was also not strategic enough from the angle of the GOC. This amounted to shooting at the GOC when he came to address the gathering as the remains of the late soldiers were brought to sight. For the man that posted the names and questioned the rationale, one of those sentenced to death is even from his home town in Mbaise. Many people have responded to his post by calling him names and warning him not to talk on issues more than him. I give my humble opinion thus; I think it is strategic to use more of people from the South since we think using their (Boko Haram) kinsmen (Muslims and Northerners) might be counter-productive as they may easily compromise. However, the soldiers have sworn to a certain oath and should whether alive or at the point of death obey it. Just like the Greek Socrates who was sentenced to death by the law of the land of Greece. Socrates had all opportunities to escape, his own intellectual wards in the army gave him chance to run away but he said NO. Listen to his submission; if this same law that has saved and kept my life all the while has now demanded it, let it have it. Socrates was executed as such. Morals! But another moral question comes here about keeping to oath or promise thus: if you took a weapon (say a gun or knife) from your friend with a promise to return it after 7 days but before then (the seven days) your friend goes mad and destructively violent. Are you still going to be morally right to keep to your promise?. My conclusion: this is part of job hazard and the soldiers should keep to faith and bear their fate accordingly because responsibility is all about praise and blame. However, we should also be sure that it was actually an act of mutiny. Why I say this is that the worst ever mistake known to humanity is when it occurs in capital punishment. We should be sure that we dont kill an innocent person since it will amount to national murder. Let us also look critically into the matter to know who actually committed mutiny; the intending victims or the GOC himself? What is your opinion on this?
