A friend recently shared how her son has learnt to treat her with disdain watching her husband treat her with disrespect. Often he will say,shut up....u dont know anything habitually or such crap...and now the boy says,Maa you dont know anything...dont interfere! How many times I have heard this line spoken to wives by husbands,tumi kichu janona....chup koro! I was surprised that women allow themselves to be treated like this at home in front of their children. This is my second friend to share such experience. Both are educated and talented women...what popular magazines may call woman of substance!!!! I think every woman should stop this at home. I know a guy who grew up seeing his Maa humiliated,even physically abused by his father.Within a few months of his own marriage,history started repeating itself...till wife had to be rescued. Am not saying all boys who watch women illtreated at home grow up to be wifebashers, but it is these constant humiliations,however small, which affects the way they look at women. It is tolerance of such attitude that teaches ur son to ill-treat or disrespect women. you are not only humiliating yourself but setting bad precedence for the society at large!!! Often hear women say they stick it out in an abusive relationship for the childs sake...i think it IS for the child especially that you should come out of such a relationship or fight back.
