A friend said I should consider giving up on my business idea, - TopicsExpress

A friend said I should consider giving up on my business idea, after reading a post where I mentioned that it took me three years to get here. His reason, It’s taken me three years to get here ;) . I understand his point of view. Sometimes we hold onto things that we should really let go of. Things that hinder us from moving forward, in our careers, relationships, finances and life in general. But the wisdom lies in knowing what to let go of and what to hold onto. Sometimes “if you can’t stop thinking about something you shouldn’t stop working for/at it” (unknown) . I started e-style when I was in Ghana ( west Africa) . I was at the point of my life where I desperately needed to do something that I loved and something that would bring fulfillment into my life ( amongst other reasons). Looking back on my life I realized that . I was the girl and now the woman who spends hours looking for a ‘ piece de resistance’ to create a beautiful and comfortable home environment to reflect who I am as an individual . So it only made sense to start an interior décor business. Hence, the tag line e-style … exclusively your style. However, the opportunities that were coming my way were more related to event décor and stage designs, so I embraced it. I loved what I was doing , had amazing ideas but couldn’t communicate those ideas to get the results I needed. I remember a friend had asked me to do the décor for his very first album launch. It was all exciting and exhilarating but I couldn’t find the people I needed to help me execute my ideas, specifically in the area of props. So I opted to use lighting to bring the stage concept alive. To cut a long story short...at a critical point of the launch were the artists was being introduced on stage, the lights went out. It was a complete black out (Ghana uses a prepaid electricity supply system). The lighting effects had consumed all the power. The disappointment that registered on my friends face is permanently etched in mind. The lesson here… passion and love without knowledge is a recipe for disaster. It’s like being passionately in love with your partner but failing to learn what makes them who they are. You need to study and know your partner to continue to have a fulfilling relationship. When I came back to Australia I took the initiative to study my craft. I’ve since taken events management course, an events design course, communication courses and continue to take courses to help me build my knowledge and skills. I’ve learnt how to communicate my ideas, to source the right vendors and suppliers, assess and mitigate risks and to manage relationships with my clients. Three years later I’m ready to pick up where I left off. Now it’s love combined with knowledge. Timing is everything. It’s my time. Will I be for everyone… No, certainly not. But those who identify with who I am and what I stand for … three years is worth the wait. Be exclusively you.
