A friend writes: I am craving beans. What am I missing? As a person moves more towards a plant-based diet, and their meat consumption lessens, the amount of daily protein must be addressed, otherwise a person will feel lethargic (protein provides the body energy) and sugar cravings will increase (feeds fungus within the cell). Beans are a quality protein. We should be eating 45-55 grams quality protein daily. Please google protein content in: hemp seeds, sesame seeds (high in calcium), raw almonds/sunflower/walnuts/cashews. Most of these nuts and seeds can easily be made into a nut mylk, replacing animal milk and giving the body quality protein and quality calcium. Besides sesame and hemp seeds, nuts need to be soaked overnight in water and drained in the morning to release the enzyme inhibitor, which interferes with proper digestion. Besides, the nuts are incredibly sweet when soaked. Placing in a dehydrator or a cookie tray and drying outside with a sprinkle of Pink Himalayan salt will give these protein dense nuts a mouth-watering taste. Please do not focus on the calories, as low nutrient foods are what increases body weight, not necessarily high calorie foods. Blended into a daily Greens drink, made into a pate`, sprinkled over salad or eaten plain, you will soon intuitively know the right amount of daily, quality protein for you to have the most Vibrant day ever! :D
