Packing your bag for the day checklist: mp3 player, phone, headphones, wireless mini-speaker, folders of music (always have your music) (this will include stuff you havent looked at for six months; as well as the one day oh yes, when I have TIME folder. You never have the time. You always have the damn folder) water bottle, the current supplements/lozenges/tablets (we all do it. fess up.) 1 or more GODDAMN heavy scores (which you may or may not be actually studying, you just like looking at them. And holding them. Because it’s NICE, okay? Its like dipping into a good book. Its exactly like that. Look at those top notes!) 4. You always have pencils. Always. Also, why do they make H pencils? Who would use them? Maybe as an offensive weapon? 4B 4 EVA. 5. True or False: “I am able to put on a ballgown-plus-hair-and-makeup/dinner-suit-and-shiny-shoes in a cramped, none-too-clean toilet cubicle and emerge looking like a SINGING GOD.” 6. True or False: “I spend a lot of the day with headphones on. Because of REASONS. 7. True or False: “Doesn’t everyone sit at their desk/in the library/on the tram and sing things even if they don’t know they’re doing it…? And then dont care once it has been pointed out to them....? I mean, doesnt - they dont? Really? Weirdos. 8. True or False: “I rate bathrooms, toilets, shower stalls, and foyers in big buildings by their acoustic properties for warming up.” 9. True or False: I have now learned to let the non-singers know when the singers are coming over to my house as well. 10. Upon learning a new acquaintance is a pleasant and accomplished accompanist, are you able to restrain yourself from asking whats your hourly rate? until at least ten minutes into the conversation? (Classier that way. Trust me on this.) 11. True or False: “I will say to people YOU MUST LISTEN TO THIS; insist they put one of my earphones in their ear while I play the latest obsession for them and stand there, eyebrows raised, saying “huh? huh?” all the way through the track.” 12 Do you have an arpeggiated laugh? (non-singers apparently find it charming. Sure. Whatever. Ill be over here with my apparently STAGED LAUGH THAT I HAVE SOMEHOW EMBEDDED INTO MY AUTONOMIC RESPONSES) 13. Do you sing greetings at people? Do you sing answers to questions? 13a. Have you noticed conversation has turned into one huge song-association quiz? 14. Have you dated at least one (1) singer and had the whole thing explode messily and horribly? 15. Have you ever said the words We had a great night watching these opera DVDs...? 16. Are the best words ever with which anyone can start a text/facebook status/email: Did you want a ticket to - ? 17. Can you say “fach” without giggling?
