A fun update, with pictures, from Elder Jesse M. McInerny: Turns out the saying is correct - white kids CANT jump. For the past two weeks, I, along with the other two district leaders in our zone, worked on setting up an awesome Zone Activity. The goal was to get out into the local area, introduce ourselves and meet our neighbors It all came together this past Saturday. One of the apartment complexes in our area was having a 3 v 3 Street Ball tournament. We thought it would be a great opportunity for us to have some fun and talk to a lot of people...I mean cmon, were Mormon missionaries, we LOVE basketball! With all of the missionaries that wanted to play, we decided to register 3 separate teams in the tournament. The greatest part about this may have been our team names and hearing them announced over the speakers every time we were playing: Team 1: The Stripling Warriors Team 2: Suits N Ties Team 3: The Guys That Pray I was playing for The Guys That Pray, and boy was it a blast! The seeding in the beginning of the tournament wasnt what we really wanted, as it had us playing against another one of our missionary teams; however, it got better as the day went on. For example, the last game I played in was against a team made up of 3 guys that all played high school and should have played in college. One guy was 64, another 66, and the tallest was 69. How do you think we did? Haha. Obviously it wasnt our day to be superstar basketball players, but it sure was fun getting out there, running around, and playing ball with guys that were throwin down left and right. I felt like I was on the court during an NBA Slam Dunk Contest! The highlight of this whole activity wasnt us playing basketball in our missionary clothes (although it looked pretty awesome and people loved seeing us play our in white shirts, dress pants and tennis shoes); instead, it was the sister missionaries that set up a lemonade/water stand and talked to everyone, handed out fliers for an Open House at our church, and explained to everyone who the goofy white kids were. We felt very welcomed and were told by the guys that put on the tournament that from here on out, whenever they have another one of these tournaments, that they want all of us to come out again and do our thing. This had to be one of the greatest days of my whole mission (so far)! So proud of our son for stepping out of his comfort zone and making good things happen!
