A gentlemen recently commented on a post I made about the Israeli/Palestinian conflict and asked the question why am I so vested in it. I know that people just hear me play jazz/soul on the radio but many know little about my love for social justice. I have been an activist for human rights since the age of 16 and my mission in life has always been to stand at the intersection of culture and social justice and merge the two together. My two biggest influences in life are Nigerian musician/activist, Fela Anikulapo Kuti and Indian human rights icon, Mahatma Gandhi. Their impact on everything I do is immeasurable and I think its no coincidence that they are both Libras like myself lol! Contrary to popular belief, there are many of us in music who believe in utilizing its healing power to bring more love and beauty into this world. Thats why I named my show, The Sounds Of Universal Love(S.O.U.L.) almost two decades ago. #notnewtothis #justtruetothis
