A glimpse from an piece of writing: Why are you so damn abrasive? Do you want people to just assume youre an ass? She said, throwing her hands in the air in frustration. He just shrugged. Their assumption just makes an ass out of both of us. Dont you care? Dont you give a damn about what people think? At this, his eyes grew hard and he glared at her. I wouldnt care what they thought if it killed me. This society youre defending? They dont give a rats ass about you or I as people. As long as we remain cogs in their machine, doing our jobs and paying our taxes, they dont have a problem. But God help you if you have personality; if you show that youre an individual. Then how dare I say this or that. As he went on, his voice grew louder and she could see his fists start shaking. Why should I bother to care? They arent there at all for me. When Ive fallen so far down that I cant freaking tell with way is up or am so tired from the bullshit and hate I cant walk anymore? They point and laugh. They mock and disapprove. To hell to what they think! It grew silent between them, with the only sound coming from him as his ragged breaths came and went. He closed his eyes to try and calm himself down. She kept looking at him, then softly said, What about love? Her question made him furrow his brow, puzzled. What about it? Havent you ever been in love before? Havent you loved someone that it made all that worth the suffering and to be bearable? He opened his mouth, then closed it. His anger seemed to vanish instantly, and the jagged look in his eyes was replaced with one of immense sorrow and pain. Its easy to love people that come into your life. But there are those...that define it for you, become the very definition of how you love. And that, for me, has happened once. Just once. What happened? He looked directly at her. It ended before it began. How do you mean? He closed his eyes again and sighed, Meaning she hurt me and when I get hurt, I resort to instinct and I run. Why not just stop running? He was quiet, turning and looking at the sun setting and for a brief moment, she could see the memories and feelings reflect in his eyes. Because no one has ever deemed me worth the trouble to run after me.
