Although there is no authentic record of the date of his birth, the registry of baptism for Ludwig van Beethoven was this date in 1770 in Bonn, Germany. Beethoven remains one of the most famous and influential of all composers of music history, being a crucial figure in the transition between the Classical and Romantic eras in Western Art Music. In 1792 he moved to Vienna, where he lived until his death in 1827. Many of his most renowned works of music were composed during the last decade of his life when he was almost totally deaf.
