A good day to our family of faith. Today is Thursday the 3rd of October. Our scripture reading is from Proverbs 29, verses 22-27. The versions are:Jubilee Bible 2000 (JUB), New Life Version (NLV), New International Version (NIV) and the Orthodox Jewish Bible (OJB) ===================================== Proverbs 29:22-27 Jubilee Bible 2000 (JUB) 22 ¶ The angry man stirs up strife, and the furious man abounds in transgression. 23 ¶ A man’s pride shall bring him low, but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit. 24 ¶ Whosoever is partner with a thief hates his own soul; he hears cursing, and does not disclose it. 25 ¶ The fear of man brings a snare, but whosoever puts his trust in the LORD shall be lifted up. 26 ¶ Many seek the ruler’s favour, but each man’s judgment comes from the LORD. 27 ¶ An unjust man is an abomination to the just, and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked. ---------------------------------------------- Proverbs 29:22-27 New Life Version (NLV) 22 A man of anger starts fights, and a man with a bad temper is full of wrong-doing. 23 A man’s pride will bring him down, but he whose spirit is without pride will receive honor. 24 He who works with a robber hates his own life. He knows about the bad that will come, but can tell nothing. 25 The fear of man brings a trap, but he who trusts in the Lord will be honored. 26 Many look for the ruler’s favor, but what is right and fair comes from the Lord. 27 A sinful man is a shame to those who are right with God, and he who is right with God is a shame to the sinful. --------------------------------------------------- Proverbs 29:22-27 New International Version (NIV) 22 An angry person stirs up conflict, and a hot-tempered person commits many sins. 23 Pride brings a person low, but the lowly in spirit gain honor. 24 The accomplices of thieves are their own enemies; they are put under oath and dare not testify. 25 Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe. 26 Many seek an audience with a ruler, but it is from the Lord that one gets justice. 27 The righteous detest the dishonest; the wicked detest the upright. ------------------------------------------------------------ Mishle 29:22-27 Orthodox Jewish Bible (OJB) 22 An ish af (angry man) stirreth up strife, and a ba’al chemah (ill-tempered man) aboundeth in peysha (transgression). 23 Ga’avat adam (pride of man) shall bring him low, but the humble in ruach shall attain kavod. 24 He who is partner with a ganav hateth his own nefesh; he heareth the curse of the victim but discloses nothing. 25 The fear of adam bringeth a mokesh (snare), but he who putteth his trust in Hashem shall be secure. 26 Many seek the moshel’s favor, but mishpat ish cometh from Hashem. 27 An unjust man is a to’evah to the tzaddikim, and he that is yeshar derech (upright in the way) is to’evah to the rasha. ===================================== Posted by Rusty
