A good, honest, and honorable man lost out to the Party Bosses and Crony Capitalists (aka Lobbyists) by a mere 108 votes, or 1.9%, last night in Newton and Morgan County. He and his family worked their asses off not just for himself, but FOR YOU, day in and day out for 9 months. I am proud that I had the chance to work alongside them! He recognized that we had unethical, illogical, and out of touch people backing candidates for an open seat, and decided to man up and do something about it. For all of you that dont believe in politics or argue that voting wont change anything, or make the comment that all politicians are the same, I hope this helps change your minds. Local races have a greater impact on our everyday lives than any of the national races. If youve given up on congress and the president, remember this: Your State Reps, County Commissioners, and City Council are your neighbors. They live down the street. They are much more accessible, and its much easier to hold them accountable. They make the rules for you to live by. They set your property tax rates. Be sure to actively seek out information on these races and vote for these positions in the future. Its not the politicians fault that they hold office for years and do nothing. Ultimately, the blame falls on you and me for not organizing to hold them accountable. Voting is only 1% of the effort needed to fix this mess. Activism, joining & attending party meetings, and participation in the convention process is the rest of it. If you want something different, youre going to have to work for it.
