A gorgeous, glad-to-be alive morning and a clear blue sky behind - TopicsExpress

A gorgeous, glad-to-be alive morning and a clear blue sky behind the autumn-gold horse-chestnut tree in the middle of the village green. I thought about the defeat of aspiration as I paused by the war memorial and the cross of sacrifice. And then I went into the churchyard to relieve myself of some of the grapefruit juice and soda water Id drunk in the village inn. I cant remember whether I did this in front or behind a grave headstone. I walked down a rather gloomy accolade of yew trees and entered the church and walked some more down the nave and arrived at a lectern which held a large, open bible. For some reason, I thought of Noel Coward breaking into an uncontrollable fit of giggles when he saw Mussolini start to orate in a stadium in Rome. There was no vast congregation for me to address. There was no-one. The bible spoke about sacrifice and said, If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, and if you spend yourselves on behalf of the hungry..then your light will rise in the darkness..and youll be like a well-watered garden. In the big church outside with the blue sky ceiling, I wandered by a little stream, picked berries and thought of the conclusion of the pilgrimage in the form of blackberry crumble and custard.
