A grandmultipara lady (of 5 kids) at her 34th week of pregnancy with history of depression(but currently well without medication) walked into the clinic with complaint of hyperactive baby. Was initially told by the staff to counsel her and gave assurance that a happy baby isnt a warning sign hence she shall not be worried. She greeted me with sweetest of smile and as she went like baby aktif sangat.semalam saya rasa penat, tak boleh tidoq I just randomly said wah baguslah baby happy2 ni.seronok main2 lah tue dalam perut you and invited her to the couch for a scan. It was noted that her bump was unusually bigger than it would for a usual 34th weeker. Palpating the abdomen, I was suspicious. The probe was first placed in the midline area of her lower abdomen and moved up and around, and within seconds the first fetal heart found; beating strongly and subsequently showed to mother. Looking at the bump, I subsequently placed the probe around her fundus area and trying to work it up from there. MasyaAllah, theres another beating heartbeat! The process repeated for a few times as to confirm the findings. Theres possibility what was found belongs to a similar baby albeit at this stage baby wont be moving around as quick as he/she would in first trimester.(not so mobile as less space now) She then added bila dia aktif sangat rasa macam ada bola - 2 bola) Case referred to O&G specialist to repeat scan and confirm whether it is a single or multiple pregnancy. Praying for the best for her and lil angel/s. This has enormously reminded me of the value of not being judgemental by first impression. As was briefly given the history by the staff and requested for an assurance that hyperactive baby isnt a red alert vs less active baby I mightve just send her home without checking the necessary. Esp when she had the history of depression, to simply relate any complaint to this isnt a good idea.and yes, the experience in prevous 5 pregnancy shall not be taken for granted. If she truly is carrying 2 souls, only Allah knows why was the twin masked from being detected in the few Ultrasounds done before. Perhaps Hes preparing both parents, siblings and relatives for a greater news on top of the joy of having an addition to the family soon? Allah is indeed capable for anything. And its easy for Him to give or take whenever He wants to. May Allah bestow upon us all with His bountiful Mercy =)
