A great day at #zumasrescueranch! Though the weather made it a challenge to ride we had an excellent discussion group and educational afternoon. Some of the topics covered were: bits (complete with examining about 20 different bits, putting them into categories, and how they each work in the mouth) different styles and methods of horse training, the unfortunate effects of Rolkur, examining Classical Equitation, looking at where modern dressage is headed vs. the classical approaches, discussions on self-carraige and what that really means, examining all of the bitless apparatus we have at Zumas and started brainstorming how to make our own humane bitless bridle based on our findings, a think-tank on grants and funding for exploring the effects on the body of the current bitless bridles we use, as well as several educational videos to further our understanding of the psychology and physiology of the influence of equipment on our horses. Following class we had a great meeting of the instructors at Zumas and have some great ideas in the works for volunteers and program development! I love productive days! Making moves, people! GO TEAM! Fun day. #highfivesaturday
