A great day in the country started with a trauma trigger. It’s - TopicsExpress

A great day in the country started with a trauma trigger. It’s funny now. I’ll tell you the story. When I was in high school, I curled. The fact that I curled was unique because I never liked sports, but if you have to choose a sport, nothing could be easier than sweeping. And I remember coming home after high school and then rushing out to curl. I came home and my mother met me at the door. “I thought you had gone to the hospital. I was going to call the newspaper. I was confused and asked what she meant. “I saw a turd in the toilet that was so big, I didn’t believe it was possible. I put it in the freezer am going to show it to people because I just can’t believe it!” I was scared and humiliated all at once. I believed my mother and believed she was possible of doing what she said. “For Crissakes Roy. It was huge. I had to chop it up to flush it down the toilet.” I was relieved she didn’t keep it, but humiliated nonetheless. So all this to tell you that I always will worry about plugging someone’s toilet and Ken and I have just spent a lot of money getting all the plumbing done on the farm - a new toilet, kitchen taps, the front was dug up to connect the well to the house - everything. So when not all of my business flushed away, I was triggered on a lot of levels. And we didn’t have a plunger. We had to drive into Home Hardware to get one. Ken threatened to announce in the store that I had plugged the toilet. I was breaking out in a sweat. Someone once said that a plunger has no other uses but to plunge. You can’t pretend you’re buying for crafting. Ken didn’t make any announcements and we decided to buy Musoka chairs with the plunger to hide my embarrassment. We wanted the chairs anyway. When we were at the Gardening section we looked across the highway and saw The Eagle’s Nest. It was so beautiful and Ken said, “Let’s go there.” We both looked at each other and said, “Yes, Let’s have a fun day.” So instead of going back to the farm to work on putting up the wood planking and painting, we went to The Eagle’s Nest. You have to make time for a fun day. Especially on the May 24 weekend. It is so beautiful on the Eagle’s Nest. It is a wonder to see what you can see from the summit. We went for a walk around to see the falls by what was the mill in Bancroft and had a Panini on the patio of a café having its grand opening. We met people we knew and listened to a guitar duo play music on the patio. We headed home to find that there was a May 2-4 Miracle. Everything was good in the bathroom and the plunger didn’t have to get wet. We put the Musoka chairs together (over an hour and not without Ikea-like frustration), heated up a frozen pizza and made a salad with spinach, dandelion greens from the fields and wild leeks. We had pickled wild leeks the day before. Yes, things are really fine in Bancroft. No shit.
