A great post from @TheCareGiversSpace on how to get your parents to see the doctor when they refuse. Those of you with parents born anytime near The Great Depression will definitely need to read this. Parents from that generation pride themselves on being able to endure anything. My Dad was once suffering symptoms of a heart attack, Mom called me at work and said that I needed to come home and talk to him. It would have taken me at least an hour to get home by public transportation but luckily I was carpooling with a coworker. Thirty-five minutes later, I get home and Dad is sitting on the side of the bed. I did finally get him to go to the hospital. Fast forward a decade or so and normally quite reasonable mother waits a day before telling me that she had fallen and hit her head on a concrete sidewalk. In spite of my best attempts to get her to go to the hospital and get checked for a concussion, she insisted that all she suffered from was a bad headache and she was feeling better. She didnt go to hospital. A few years later she had no choice. A MRI showed that she had fluid on the brain, a condition that I later learned was called Normal Pressure #Hydrocephalus. #NPH Parents can be a handful. #caregivers #caregiving #familycaregiving.
