A cruel homecoming queen prank has a North Texas high school girl — and the whole world — having the last laugh. After Lillian Skinner’s classmates falsely told her she had been nominated as homecoming queen of Grand Prairie High School as a joke, the other two girls nominated for the honor made a pact: If either of them won, they’d hand the honor over to Lillian. “They make fun of my teeth, my hair — you know I have short hair — people call me Chucky and buck teeth,” Lillian said of her crueler classmates at the high school located between Dallas and Fort Worth. But when the big moment came and the real winner was announced, Anahi Alvarez turned the crown over to Lillian, her longtime friend. In all my time in school this is probably the greatest moment Ive ever experienced as a principal, said Lorimer Arendse, Grand Prairies top administrator. And now that heartwarming moment has quickly gone viral. On Facebook, the story reached millions. Twitter all but stood up and cheered: Mean Girls lose this round.. kindness prevails, tweeted one user. This week Anahi, Lillian, and the other girl that was nominated, Naomi Martinez, asked all 2,600 students at the school to sign a pledge against bullying. “It was just a way that we could, we’re gonna make Lilly feel good, we’re going to let her know that she deserves the crown,” Anahi said. “Whoever told her that she’d been nominated — they’re going to see that there’s people that are going to stop them, that are going to stand up for all the innocent people that can’t defend themselves.” Grand Prairie won its Homecoming game on the night Lillian wore the crown, but the bigger win was for doing the right thing.
