A great video of the Beechcraft Starship in flight. Designed by Bert Rutan, the Beech Starship was an extremely innovative and beautiful aircraft. This plane is an example of a canard (French for duck) design which places the horizontal stabilizer in front rather than the usual location on the tail. This is similar to the layout used by the Wright Brothers. Produced during the 1980s, the Starship was built of composites and so the structure is not subject to metal fatigue and is certified forever. It is also the first pressurized composite aircraft. There are a host of firsts including the advanced avionics and instrument displays which are similar to those used on modern airliners. Although at one time there were 53 examples flying, it never went into full production due to high maintenance costs. It is powered by two gas turbine (turboprop) engines.
