A group of Mali election workers have been freed after being kidnapped over the weekend in the northern Kidal province, governor Adama Kamissoko told AP. The workers went to one of the towns to distribute election ID cards when they were kidnapped by members of a Tuareg rebel group. French workers have picked up the freed group and transferred them to Camp Amachache, 7 kilometers (4 miles) outside Tessalit. The number of kidnapped workers remains unclear with some officials saying four and others referring to six. The Tuareg group renounced calls for independence last month after signing an accord that permitted the Malian administration to return to Kidal province to prepare for the elections on July 28. - rt news - july 21st 2013 - death
