A group of monkeys were introduced to a room with a banana in the middle. Every time a monkey tried to grab the banana, it got an electric shock. In the beginning most monkeys tried to grab the banana but eventually as it electrocuted them, the group feared to touch the banana. When the day came that no monkey was going closer to the banana, the electricity was turned off and a monkey of the initial group was substituted with a new monkey everyday until the entire group inside the room consisted of new monkeys. To the surprise even though there was no electricity, and none of the new monkeys were even electrocuted before, they feared touching the banana. None of them even tried. We stick to beliefs just because our ancestors did so or our age old religions say so, not knowing the truth about it. We even fear to question why certain rules have to be followed. Be it your race or religion, why would you follow something blindly. Circumstances have changed over the years and what was true in the past maybe false now. What was wrong can be right now. We do not know until we put it to test. We humans hold back so much ideas our brains come up with just because of certain beliefs in our society. We try to change the facts according to our beliefs. And we have no difference from those monkeys who have much smaller brains than ours. What we should understand is that, facts will not change unless they are disproved and then again they become the new facts. The harder we try to change the facts according to our beliefs, the more foolish we become. Only if we are intelligent we can be humble enough to accept the facts and change the beliefs accordingly.
