A growing area of showers and thunderstorms is moving west to east - TopicsExpress

A growing area of showers and thunderstorms is moving west to east across the North-Central Plains this evening. These storms will continue to fester as they charge east into Northern Illinois by day break. Heavy rain and some thunderstorms are not out of the question. NO SEVERE WEATHER IS FORECAST FOR THE OVERNIGHT. As these rain and storms clear out of the area during the morning, clearing skies and rising temperatures will create a strongly unstable air mass. Residual outflow boundaries along with a sagging cold front should be the focal point for renewed shower and thunderstorm development. These storms will most likely be severe with all three modes of severe weather possible. [Wind: Medium threat; Hail: Low; Tornado; Low] Damaging winds in excess of 60 miles an hour and very heavy rains will be the main threats. Flash flooding a definite possibility tomorrow across most of the area. Rainfall amounts and intensity will vary depending on exact location, but those with outdoor plans tomorrow afternoon and especially the evening should stay weather aware. Stay tuned to the National Weather Service, local media, and other reliable resources in case severe weather approaches. Rough Guestimates Timing: rain/storms by 5a west - 7a east Severe storms after 3p west - 5p east
