A gun attack on the office of Frances satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo while staff were in a planning meeting left 12 people dead, most of them journalists. Here are brief profiles of the victims. Stephane Charbonnier, editor Charb was 47. He had received death threats in the past and had been under police protection. A stout defender of the left-wing magazines provocative approach, he refused to bow to critics. I dont have kids, no wife, no car, no debt, he once told Frances Le Monde newspaper. Maybe its a little pompous to say, but Id rather die standing than live on my knees. This extract from a BBC report just instigated an excursion in my mind. There are so many ways to analyse this...
