A hafali dōni unloading cargo from a trading boat having arrived from Male in 1981. Large boats were precariously anchored offshore. Fua Mulaku had no harbor and the island was surrounded by the powerful oceanic swell. All merchandise had to be brought ashore on these small fishing boats, The rowers were skilled at passing the heavily-laden dōni through the breakers, but it was a hazardous maneuver and sometimes unloaded items and passengers got wet.
