A happy new year to you all friends and comrades; least we forget - TopicsExpress

A happy new year to you all friends and comrades; least we forget our family members who are no longer with us but there in spirit. On the 6th January 2014 Minister Angie Motshekga will officially announce Grade 12 2014 results. Again the results of the innocent African children will be highly politicised like what happened last year in parliament where the DA claimed of producing the best Garde 12 results in the country and the deputy Minister of basic education had to counter that claim. Are we going to get genuine results in light of the fact that education is highly politicised? UMalusi has given a brief analysis of the quality of results; with Mathematics, Physical Sciences and Life Sciences being poorly perfomed subjects. It is unfortunate that again our schooling system will produce learners who will struggle even to access FET colleges. The exclusionary requirements of former apartheid universities will deny access to many African children. The government added petrol to this fire when it allowed universities to exclude Life Orientation in the point system. The subject is important in boosting learners overall percentage and instilling societal values; unfortunately it is not that important for our universities. The question that arises, when is the government going to align basic education and higher education? The painful thing is that these politicians from all political parties do not trust the public schools, their children are enrolled in private schools. The IEB or private schools attained 98% pass for Grade 12 in 2014, 85% of the learners qualify for university entrance(bachelor pass). 84% obtained above 40% for Mathematics compared to the 30% pass mark for public schools. This is the reason why will always have challenges in our education as it does not affect our leaders directly. This why even unions will go on strike for almost 2 months, compromising the future of many African children knowing very well that for their children is business as usual in private schools. 58 Exam centers in EC and KZN will not receive results due to allegations of copying. This implies that these learners wont be able to go to universities this year. Education should not be politicised as it is one component crucial for building this country. Government must increase the salaries of educators so as to have motivated teachers who will be compensated for the extra work they put in during extra classes. Lastly, let me commend those who brake the boundaries and rise above all challenges and attain good results.
