A heartbreaking but inspiring video. This past Saturday night, crowds descended upon the United Nations Headquarters in New York City as the Oceanic Preservation Society lit up the UN with 39-story images in a first-of-its-kind event: illUmiNations: Protecting Our Planet. The projections displayed were spectacular. Traffic stopped. People were in awe. By bringing attention to the impact humanity is having on endangered species, acidifying oceans, and threatened habitats, OPS exposed the disaster we are all shuffling towards like mindless zombies. I believe each of us must do something. My goal is to signigicantly reduce my carbon footprint every year. 2010: signed up for PSE green electricity. 2011: started driving a Nissan LEAF. 2012: LED lights. 2013: solar panels. This year, I plan a heat pump to get off natural gas heating. Next year, who knows? Id be interested in hearing what ideas you have!
