A hearty welcome back after the holidays to you all!! Trust you had an enjoyable festive period with friends and family. We are back to school already and very excited to announce that we are now offering our program at The Grange School,Ikeja! They love our program so much that they have asked us to come TWICE a week... I am personally pleased with this as it means that we are reaching more and more children as part of our campaign, S.T.E.M Revolution: Developing 21st century skills in the Nigerian Child-Our campaign is rather ambitious but we love a challenge at Bricks4kidz Nigeria. What are 21st Century Skills? 21st Century skills are a set of abilities that students need to acquire and develop to succeed in the information-based economy of the 21st Century. These skills aim to bridge the gap between theory (knowledge) and practice. Some of these skills are already being nurtured and developed in schools through the traditional learning approach however, since we now live in an information economy, a multi disciplinary approach to learning is required as oppose to learning in silos. i.e. application of the knowledge as oppose to cram and regurgitate. These skills are meant to inspire creativity, innovation, communication, collaboration, problem solving and critical thinking. Depending on where you are in the world, this approach is already being actively implemented into the core curriculum or after school enrichment programs using various applications of a S.T.E.M (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) curriculum. Being a S.T.E.M based program,we at Bricks4idz feel we are fully suited to meet this challenge!! S.T.E.M Crisis More employers now are not only looking for individuals who can think analytically and deeply but those who can be creative in providing solutions using ever rapidly changing technology. Recognising that these skills need to be incorporated in academic curricula, corporations and governments around the world are already investing millions of dollars into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) programs starting from Pre-Kindergarten-16+, thereby starting them young and attempting to curb a STEM Crisis. The future global economies will depend on innovation and creativity-progressive countries realise that their economic survival and development hinges on this. We would like ensure that Nigerian children are not left behind in this super fast information age and we are excited about ensuring that our program reaches many more children. To this end, we are exploring various partnership options with multinationals (after all, they may be the future employers of Bricks4kidz children!) We will keep you posted of our activities as we embark on this new journey and look forward to having the children join us in our planned activities throughout this term. Keep well....
