A heavenly aroma Thirty high school students and seven chaperones set out on our church’s annual youth choir trip. After a great performance in Boulder, Colorado, they jumped up on a brick wall for a group photo. “Hey,” somebody said, “this wall is moving.” The kids leaped off the wall as it collapsed and fell to the ground. “My leg! It’s stuck!” Patrick, a senior, cried. His leg was pinned under a section of wall. A bunch of us tried to free Patrick, but the wall wouldn’t budge. Lord, we’re not strong enough! A terrible smell, like body odor, tickled my nose. I looked up to see a large man beside me. He leaned down and put his hands under the wall. We all lifted. Pat was free! Paramedics arrived and went to work on Pat’s broken leg. Afterward, everyone remembered the rescuer, but no one knew where he came from or where he went. A light breeze blew, carrying a whiff of that terrible smell, which a moment later changed into a heavenly aroma. CRAIG HUGHES, MISSOURI
