A house in Whispering Pines was destroyed by a fire Thursday afternoon. The house located at 56 Sandpiper Drive had flames coming through the roof when the first emergency responders reached the scene just after 4:00 PM. Smoke from the fire could be seen as far away as Aberdeen. Reportedly no one was at home when the fire started. A volunteer firefighter called in the fire after seeing the thick black smoke from NC Highway 22. Sandpiper Drive was totally blocked to traffic for an extended period of time by the emergency vehicles responding to the fire. There were no injuries reported in today’s fire. Firefighters were on the scene until 10:00 PM extinguishing all of the flames. Responding to the incident were units and staff with Whispering Pines Fire Department, Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Pinehurst Fire Department, Carthage Fire & Rescue, Seven Lakes Fire Department, Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Crestline Fire Department, Pinebluff Fire Department, Moore County EMS, the Moore County Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Whispering Pines Police Department.
