A hugely-entertaining chat (as ever) with Pressmanor Lakes Bernie Maher yesterday morning persuaded me to postpone finishing an article and head for the Meden. Despite a very low river, it was a great multi-species session, with 13 wild brownies, 4 chub and a lovely roach - all to upstream, fixed-line nymphing tactics. The roach - my first from the Meden - was sight-fished, and took an experimental pattern (originally intended for grayling) on its first outing, tied with fur from our Syrian hamster, Norma! There were also water voles and kingfishers to admire, plus a handful of ripened blackberries to nibble on whilst walking back to the car. Next time Ill be targeting the two large perch I spotted in the shallow, shaded pool from which the roach came...
