A hypothesis in science is not just a guess, or even an educated - TopicsExpress

A hypothesis in science is not just a guess, or even an educated guess. Hypotheses are educated guesses based on observations of currently understood reality that seek to explain how a certain phenomenon occurs; moreover – and this is critical – these guesses must be falsifiable and testable. If a proposed explanation is incapable of being investigated, it’s not science. A scientific theory, likewise, is NOT a guess. Theories are on the procedural “opposite side” from hypotheses; they are at the pinnacle of science and of actually understanding reality. Theories are exhaustively peer-reviewed and tested models and frameworks for explaining how reality works, and they come about by amalgamating all of the research, facts, models, evidence, and established physical laws from the most brilliant and dedicated minds in multiple related fields. Theories are constantly tested against, and are consistently given verification by their correct explanatory power, spot-on predictive capability, durability, and dynamics; importantly, theories also DO NOT claim to be inviolable or perfect – science is all about continuing to correct, modify, and adapt based on new evidence. If you “don’t believe in” the theory of evolution, big bang cosmology, gravitational theory, germ theory, cell theory, or atomic theory, you’re unworthy of your arrogance, and simply wrong.
