A joyous reunion for a sad purpose. The memorial service for my buddy Mark Rivera morphed into a kind of Irish wake. Thought for awhile we might get 86ed from a funeral ( which would have been a 1st ) but Marks widow was right there in the thick of it , laughing and reminiscing . This was apropos as Mark was a funny guy. Wed be in the thick of some tense situation -police, fights, blood and I would just be lasered in and I would feel a tug on my shirt and Mark would say Hey Byron , did I ever tell you the one about.... Dial it back about a thousand. You needed the ability to find humor in the darkest corners and a certain resiliency to persevere at the job we had ( and some of the people in these pictures still have ). This is a common thread that unites the people in these pictures. Nice to see so many old friends and acquaintances. Mark, you would have liked your funeral. Tell a couple to Andy Kaufman for me.
