A kid just asked a great question - what is the difference between the math that he is learning at Dewey and the math in a top college, and how come so many top Dewey students struggled once in a top engineering school. And I answered, it is like no kung fu master can beat a true street fighter. A kung fu master knows a specific set of moves and often follows such tactic to his own demise, but dont not how to response when fighting against someone who doesnt know any rules, but instead fights according to the past experience and best techniques that he has picked up unique to his own speed, strength, and dexterity. Same thing goes for high school math, students learn to follow one best way but not develop their own instinct according to their thinking style. And if you want to pick up these real math problem solving skills learned after real bruising combats, this is the resource. mitpress.mit.edu/sites/default/files/titles/content/9780262514293_Creative_Commons_Edition.pdf
