A kind gentleman and his beautiful wife gave me a lift from the airport to the city centre. We travelled back to Uganda on the same flight yesterday. It was interesting to meet and briefly interact with their two sons who met us at the airport. The older four-year- old boy is autistic and does not speak. He cries and he hums tunes. His younger brother of about three years old is very articulate and asked the most intelligent questions. Listening to the mother talking about discovering that her son has autism, and how she went about raising this special child was very educative for me. Listening to the family narrate how he once left home on his own and jogged from one trading centre to another where a kind lady took him to the police station was also powerful. I discovered another body of knowledge unknown to me: management and care of autistic family members in Uganda.
